Course Overview

The program is underpinned by the belief that educated, committed and well-prepared instructional staff and school leaders will help meet the diverse challenges that school systems face in the 21st century. A unique aspect of this program is the contextualization of education issues to the challenges that face educators in Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE, and the wider region.

The program allows experienced educational professionals to earn the M.Ed. degree while continuing with their careers. Classes meet in the evenings and weekends to accommodate working educators. The program is part-time and can be completed in two academic years and two summers. The program has two tracks. One is in teaching and learning and is intended for teachers who want to improve their practice and become instructional leaders. The second is in school leadership for teachers and other school personnel who want to continue or advance into administration.

Objectives

  • Prepare students for careers as educational and instructional leaders and practitioners, grounded in the culture and society of the region.
  • Provide students with a thorough understanding of educational policy, teaching and learning practice and administration, coupled with a contextualized awareness of the unique environment that exists in Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE, and the wider region.
  • Prepare students to apply multi-disciplinary and critical ways of thinking when exploring educational issues.
