Course Overview

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college.
  • Submit official transcripts (in English) of all previously completed undergraduate and graduate coursework.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) or evidence of relevant professional performance.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from academic or professional sources.
  • Submit a writing sample designated by the department.
  • Participate in an interview with a faculty member (when required by the department).
  • International applicants whose native language is not English must submit scores from the TOEFL or IELTS exams. A minimum score of 88 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS exams is required (requirements on sub-scores on each component of the TOEFL or IELTS may also apply). The English language test score requirement is waived for native speakers of English or for those submitting transcripts from degrees earned at American institutions.
  • Upon arrival at RIT, international students may be asked to take an English language proficiency exam. Those who do not meet the minimum standard will be required to take additional English language courses.
  • All required admission materials must be submitted and reviewed by faculty prior to the completion of 9 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the program.

  • IELTS: 6.5    
  • PTE Academic: 62

English Language Requirements:

An official score report for the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam is required of all international applicants whose native language is not English. Please view the overall minimum score requirement for your intended program in the table below. In addition, each program requires balanced sub-scores when determining an applicant’s need for additional English language courses.
