Course Overview

Strong reading skills are critically important for everyone to succeed, and kids need educators like you who can help them build a solid foundation.

We believe that getting real-world experience will be important to your education, and that's why your curriculum will include both hands-on learning as well as professional development experiences. Your coursework will cover subjects such as reading pedagogy, research, literacy, language development, and more, with classes like Reading in Content Areas, Dyslexia Research, Education and Advocacy, and Literature for Grades P-12. Your classroom experience will include both an internship and an opportunity to work with children who have reading disabilities. In the end, we'll want you to have a strong portfolio so you can be ready to hit the job market. We also offer a Post-Master’s Certification in Reading program intended for teachers with a master’s degree, Class A certification in an instructional or instructional support area, and a minimum of two years teaching experience for those who wish to add a Class A certification in the Reading Specialist Program.
