Course Overview

At UAB, we can teach you how to plan, implement, and evaluate health programs and help communities live healthier, happier lives.

Because this is such a critically important issue in today's society, the UAB School of Education, the UAB School of Public Health, and the University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences jointly administer the health education/health promotion doctoral program to create a program that's nationally recognized as one of the best. These institutions offer cutting-edge research and the core courses necessary to help prepare you for a career as a researcher, clinician, university faculty member, or a position in higher education, government agencies, and more. To prepare for your dissertation, you will complete a research internship working with faculty on research projects and grants, developing scholarly publications, and/or presenting at professional conferences. You will complete courses in the Health Education/Health Promotion core, which include Advanced Behavioral Theory, Advanced Planning of Health Education/Promotion Programs, and Evaluation and Research Methods. Finally, you'll do a research internship, dissertation, and a comprehensive exam. This in-depth program will give you the opportunity to expand your knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward health education in communities.
