Course Overview

Focusing mainly on the pre-production process, you design from a wide spectrum of topics including character design, creature design, environment design, key art illustrations, splash art, and weapons and props. You explore these creative briefs through traditional art methods, as well as learning how to utilise a range of digital art tools including software such as Photoshop, Maya, ZBrush and After Effects.

The course is fully supported by a range of industry staff who, using their array of contacts, regularly invite current artists within the industry to meet students. Previous speakers include Ian McQue, Sandra Duchiewicz, Ubisoft and Atomhawk.

Take part in Animex our annual international festival of games and animation which brings together experts from world-renowned studios including Rockstar, Pixar, Aardman, Disney, ILM, Sony Interactive and Supermassive Games. An optional work placement year is included, at no extra cost.

Alongside the optional work placement year, you can gain valuable experience and engagement with the sector through our shorter work placements, internships and work experience opportunities.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

  • Year 0 entry (UCAS code IW24 BA/CAFY): flexible, each application is considered on a case-by-case basis

  • Year 1 entry (UCAS code IW29 BA/CA): 96-112 points

Essential subjects
We accept Level 3 qualifications in art and design or another creative subject.

Maths and English
Acceptable qualifications in maths and English include:
• GCSE grade 4 (or higher)
• Level 2 Key Skills (Communication and Application of Number)
• Level 2 Functional Skills.

We also accept alternative equivalent or higher level qualifications.

Fees

Fee for UK applicants
Full-time: £9250 a year

Part-time: £4500 (120 credits)

Fee for International applicants
£13000 a year
