About Bangor University

Bangor is no ordinary university. It's a place to think, a place to explore and a place to achieve.

Established in 1884, Bangor University has a long tradition of excellence and exceeds expectations, both for academic standards and student experience.

Founded in 1884, Bangor University today is a thriving, forward-looking institution offering excellent opportunities. Around 10,000 students currently study with us and our teaching and research is grouped into fourteen academic Schools.

A strong, confident institution recognised regionally, nationally and internationally as a center of excellence for its varied portfolio of teaching and research, and for the unique, multicultural, inclusive experience it provides for its staff and students.

We offer the highest quality teaching in a supportive learning environment and you can be assured that you will be taught by lecturers who want to see you thrive.

Our Gold award in the UK government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) reflects our commitment to ensuring our students succeed. We were given the highest possible award due to our teaching quality and our students’ learning outcomes.

Our courses will help to set you on the right path for a successful career.  You can choose to study from courses across the sciences, arts, business, law and humanities. We have a variety of learning pathways, including degree apprenticeships and foundation degrees and you can combine your love of two different subjects by opting for a joint honours degree.   Every new undergraduate student can gain work experience as part of their degree. This can range from a two-week placement to a year out between Years 2 and 3 of your degree.

Internships

Bangor University runs undergraduate and postgraduate internship schemes twice a year, which allow students to work in a professional environment while learning relevant skills and earning money.
There is a wide range of internships you can get involved in, from medical research to marketing and promotion. Internships offer valuable experience in a professional workplace.

Work experience and placements

Work experience is a critical factor in gaining future graduate employment. We offer a variety of options to gain valuable employability skills, which include supporting you in work placements and internships that you may wish to undertake.

To boost your employability you can choose to do a placement as part of almost all undergraduate degrees we offer at Bangor. Placements can be a year in length (taken between years 2 and 3), 3 months or 2 weeks (minimum 70 hours, taken during year 2).

If you see the Placement Year logo on a course page, it indicates that there are work placement opportunities available if you follow that course.
