Course Overview

The Sound and Live Event Production course will give you the technical skills to transform live performances into events. You'll study live sound, video, rigging and lighting technology for use in all kinds of venues, from theatre, concerts and festivals, to TV, themed attractions and corporate events.

There is a balance of theoretical and practical applications of technology, so you'll learn how to work with artistic colleagues to find creative solutions to the practical challenges of staging live events.

We regularly get involved in all kinds of events, from pop-up castle cinemas to live sports broadcasts. This mix of theory and practice will prepare you for a career in entertainment, broadcasting, touring logistics, technical production companies, and technical sales.

You'll cover the fundamentals of sound, lighting and electrical technology, alongside key aspects of rigging and installation design. You'll also explore video technology and issues around networks, business concepts and planning. During your final year, you'll undertake a major group project to develop an industry-standard product. This will allow you to build additional skills such as creative problem solving and effective communication that are highly valued by employers.
