Course Overview

The aim of the course is to introduce you to theoretical and practical based studies that explore materials design and apparel product analysis. The course will deliver a curriculum that draws on the fashion department’s knowledge and expertise in materials and fabrication. It will utilize existing resources in textile development and apparel construction. It will also utilize the University’s provision of 3D technologies, workshops, and laboratories to offer experiential learning environments for you throughout your study.

Referencing a variety of module structures that explore garment shape, textile fiber composition, and fabric performance, the curriculum will also reflect upon the challenges faced by an ever-changing industry that needs a focus on materials and fit development (State of Fashion 2020), facilitating you in offering innovative and dynamic solutions to relevant industry challenges.

The course will reflect industry practice in the field of textiles and apparel product development. With a focus on gaining skills relevant to product lifecycles, professional material, and garment technologist roles.

The course will offer a placement provision that will be recommended due to the value of learning in the workplace and the highlighted industry need to direct graduates towards a career path in technology.

Entry Requirement 

Academic Requirements:

A-LEVEL
Must include passes at A2 in at least two subjects.

BTEC
Extended Diploma or Diploma

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
Diploma with 25 points including a minimum of 15 points at Higher Level.

We would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths. All applicants are required to attend an interview and submit a portfolio of their work (Please see below for details).

English Language Requirements:

Overall IELTS score of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking (or recognised equivalent).

If you do not meet the academic English language requirements for your course, you may be eligible to enrol on a pre-sessional English programme. The length of the course will depend on your current level of English and the requirements for your degree programme. We offer a 5-week and an 11-week pre-sessional course.
