Course Overview

It is designed to prepare future junior executives and business managers for the emerging oil & gas industry in Cyprus to be fully trained and competent in all aspects of management, economics, law, and technology so that they may function effectively in this emerging industry.

Objectives

The proposed Bachelor's degree is designed to have learning outcomes related to knowledge, application of knowledge, and understanding of the oil and gas technologies and the management of energy. The curriculum equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge, investigative and analytical skills, and the understanding of the business and management processes necessary to develop a career in the Oil & Gas industry.

The programme has both an academic and market orientation. Thus, it targets students that intend to pursue post-graduate studies, as well as those that will enter the job market after graduation.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this program, the students should be able to:

  1. Utilize knowledge and understanding on conventional business administration subjects such as general accounting, economics, management, marketing, business law, and finance.
  2. Exhibit such skills that are required in negotiation, operations management, oil & gas accounting, and project management for the energy sector.
  3. Critically evaluate basic science concepts and principles relating to physical geology, petroleum geology, and energy technologies.
  4. Utilize fundamental knowledge of oil & gas technologies, and apply safety and risk assessment techniques.
  5. Display knowledge and understanding in the area of law relating to oil & gas, the environment, and the law of the seas.
  6. Analyze and evaluate the economics of energy, oil & gas industry, and the oil and gas markets.
  7. Clearly communicate European energy and environmental policies as well as geopolitical security issues.
  8. Critically analyze and evaluate current environmental topics, such as climate change, renewable resources and sustainability.
  9. Manage one’s own learning and development, including time management and organizational skills in order to plan and implement a major independent project.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

The minimum admission requirement to the programme of study is a recognized High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC). Students with a lower HSLC grade than 7.5/10 or 15/20 or equivalent depending on the grading system of the country issuing the HSLC are provided with extra academic guidance and monitoring during the first year of their studies.

Graduation Requirements:

The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements.

A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.

English Language Requirements:

Students who do not possess any of the qualifications or stipulated grades listed below and hold IELTS with 4.5 and above, are required to take UNIC’s NEPTON English Placement Test (with no charge) and will receive English Language support classes, if and as needed, from UNIC’s International Gateway Centre (IGC).

  • Internet-based TOEFL – 80 and above
  • IELTS – 6 and above
  • Cambridge Exams [First Certificate] – B and above
  • Cambridge Exams [Proficiency Certificate – C and above
  • GCSE English Language “O” Level – C and above
  • Michigan Examination of Proficiency in English (CaMLA) – Pass
  • Pearson PTE General – Level 3 and above
  • KPG (The Greek Foreign Language Examinations for the State Certificate of Language Proficiency) – Level B2 and above
  • Anglia – Level B2 and above
  • IEB Advances Programme English – Pass
  • Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE) Michigan Language Assessment by Cambridge Assessment English & University of Michigan – 650 average scores for ALL skills and above.
