Course Overview

First two years at UMSL for pre-engineering and general education courses.Civil engineering includes the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings and railways.

They are stewards of the environment and natural resources, are innovative users of technology, manage risk and uncertainty and are leaders in discussions and decisions in shaping public, environmental and infrastructure policies. Civil Engineers future work will include adapting the built environment and infrastructure to new civil engineering materials, autonomous vehicles, green infrastructure and technologies.
