Programme Type:

Course Overview

If hands-on design interests you, you will find mechanical engineering to be a broad field—one that covers numerous industries including automotive, appliance, biomechanical, chemical and material processing, energy, computers, electronics, and aerospace. You will gain a strong background in theory and analysis in numerical methods and finite element analysis. All students are required to complete basic design courses, and in your senior year you may choose an area of study from the following:

  • Biomechanics
  • Energy systems & thermal design
  • Dynamics & control systems
  • Fluid mechanics & solid mechanics
  • Material science & composites
  • Mechanical systems design & manufacturing
  • Thermodynamics & heat transfer

Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

Students who, at the time of application, have completed 24 or more credits at regionally accredited postsecondary institutions will be evaluated using transfer admission criteria.

Direct admission to a bachelor of science* major

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA with a grade of B- or better in Calculus I OR
  • Minimum 2.75 overall GPA AND a minimum 2.5 GPA (based on most recent course attempts) in Calculus I, Calculus II, and Calculus-based Physics I with the corresponding lab, with a grade of C- or better in each course.

NOTE: For admission into the computer science major, calculus-based Physics I is not required, but will be accepted.
*Please see below for bachelor of science in construction management criteria.

Direct admission to the bachelor of arts in computer science major or the bachelor of science in the construction management major

  • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • Completion of at least one of the following courses with a grade of C or better: College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, or Calculus II

Admission to pre-engineering

Students who do not meet the criteria for direct admission to a major will be considered for admission to pre-engineering with major interest.

  • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • Completion of at least one of the following courses with a grade of C or better: College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, or Calculus II
