Course Overview

More than one million cancer patients receive radiation treatment each year—and Suffolk University’s Radiation Science & Therapy program can put you on the front lines of this multi-faceted field that integrates radiation, biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Prepare for a rewarding career in the medical field, research, or further graduate study in the field of cancer treatment and health sciences.

Our expert faculty will work with you to tailor a program of study from our program options that help you achieve your goals. You will begin your freshman year as a radiation science major. If you're interested, you can apply to the radiation therapy major in your sophomore year. If at that time you're not accepted to the radiation therapy program, you may reapply the following year, while continuing your studies in radiation science.

The Radiation Science Major emphasizes laboratory and research training rather than clinical training, making it ideal preparation for medical research careers and graduate study. By integrating the study of biology, radiation, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, our well-rounded program prepares you for a career in health care or any of the sciences. Majors in the program have the opportunity to complete an internship at a regional healthcare facility, including the possibility of interning at a top medical center.

If you are selected for the Radiation Therapy Major, you'll combine your classroom studies with hands-on clinical training at one of our partnering hospitals. Suffolk students enjoy clinical experiences at Boston's world-famous healthcare facilities, including Massachusetts General Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Your clinical training includes observing and participating in the daily responsibilities of radiation therapists, patient care, and operation of the linear accelerator treatment machines.
