Course Overview

A healthy environment is essential to our everyday lives. What we eat and drink, the air we breathe, and the places we live and work need to be safe and healthy.

Environmental health and sustainability professionals ensure our communities and environments are safe and healthy. Biological, chemical, and physical hazards pose challenges to our planet and to people. You can study these hazards and help prevent or reduce damage to the environment and human health.

From where you work to what you do, you can have a career in environmental health and sustainability that fits your passion. At Illinois State, you can focus on public health, industrial hygiene, or environmental protection. This can lead you to an exciting career in:

  • Food protection
  • Water and wastewater management
  • Indoor and outdoor air quality control
  • Pollution prevention
  • Occupational health
  • Industrial hygiene
