Course Overview

The Burnett School offers a series of Bachelor’s degree programs in Biomedical Sciences. This thorough, but flexible undergraduate program provides excellent preparation for graduate education in the life sciences or professional degree programs.

The Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Sciences meets all the admission requirements for medical/health professional schools and also prepares students for entry into the technical work force in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry, as well as to support academic research endeavors in federally funded research programs.

The program encourages and strongly supports participation of undergraduates in the exciting research being conducted by the faculty in cancer, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and infectious diseases. The department is one of the most rapidly expanding departments at the university, offering outstanding research and educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral trainees, and faculty.

Besides the core degree program, there are two available Tracks and one Concentration that may appeal to students depending on their interests. These are listed below:

  • Track in Molecular Microbiology
  • Track in Molecular Cell Biology
  • Pre-professional concentration

Entry Requirement 

Degree Requirements:

  • Students who change degree programs and select this major must adopt the most current catalog.
  • Students should complete the General Education Program before transferring within the Florida College System or State University System.
  • Grades below “C” in Common Program Prerequisites, Core Requirements and Restricted Electives will not be accepted.
  • Students should consult with a BSBS academic advisor at least once per semester.

In-state : $212.28 per credit hour

Out of state : $748.89 per credit hour
