Course Overview

This course is designed to support you, the returnee, to re-establish clinical competency in a range of radiographic techniques and diagnostic imaging procedures within your scope of practice, and to work safely within the current health care environment.

The course begins with theoretical classroom contact and simulation activities in the Clinical Skills Suite (where appropriate), followed by a supervised clinical placement designed to support you in meeting the HCPC return to practice requirements. Your learning will be supported (where appropriate) by use of a radiographic technique DVD.

We recognise that all radiographers returning to practice will have different learning requirements. A ‘gaps analysis’ exercise will be used to identify your individual learning needs, considering your previous experience, length of career break and your scope of practice/speciality.

We build flexibility into the course to ensure that you can secure part time hours during the practice element of the course if required.

Entry Requirement

This module will be available to diagnostic radiographers from both plain film and other imaging modalities (with either a UK based DCR or BSc qualification), who have previously been registered with the HCPC but have not practised their profession for more than two years. It will also be available to individuals who may have qualified in the UK as a Diagnostic Radiographer with a DCR or BSc qualification, but then did not practice or register with the HCPC post qualification.

You will need to have an occupational health review and advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Proof of UK Residency (to meet UKBA requirements) will be required

All applicants will be interviewed as part of the consideration for entry to this programme.  Interviews will include representatives from both the University and clinical departments, where appropriate.
