Course Overview

The programme embarks on a revitalisation and enrichment journey through the development of design, conceptual creativity, theory and philosophy of spaces to create exciting and practical environments in which people live, work, and play.

The Diploma in Interior Architecture course offered by the School of Architecture and Built Environment is a 2 and a half years programme in the discipline and professional practice of Interior Architecture. The course emphasizes delivering professional standard knowledge impartment, the understanding and skills in resolving and communicating design, technical and constructional drawing, practical and technological skills in its application to Interior Architecture projects.

Students are required to undergo a compulsory Industry Experience attachment for a minimum duration of 6 months , to learn and familiarise themselves with the working environment of the building and construction industry.

The Diploma in Interior Architecture Programme at the School of Architecture and Built Environment treats Interior Architecture as a holistic and multi-disciplinary design education domain which deals with a broad range of places to make a personal statement in the design of an interior. It also promotes a shared understanding of the social and architectural conventions as a common language in the realm of the built environment.

Entry Requirement 

Academic Requirements:

SPVM/SPM/‘O’ Levels
(Arts/Science stream)

Pass with minimum 3 Credits (‘C’ grade for O-Level)

SKM / SKK

Pass SKM/SKK level 3 in related field AND *Pass SPM with min 1 credit

Community College
(Level 3, MQF)

1. Pass Community College Certificate (Level 3 MQF) in the related field AND *Pass SPM with min 1 subject
OR
2. Pass Community College Certificate (Level 3 MQF) with CGPA 2.0 in the related field

UEC
(Commerce/Science stream)

Pass with minimum grade ‘B’ for 3 credits

STPM

Pass with minimum ‘C’ grade (CGPA 2.0) for 1 subject

STAM

Pass with (Magbul grade)

A-Level

Minimum Grade ‘D’ for 1 subject

SAM

Minimum average of 50% in 5 subjects

CPU

Minimum average of 50% in 6 subjects

Other qualifications deemed equivalent to SPM/O-Level by Malaysian Qualifications Agency

English Language Requirements:

Local Students:

English language competency requirements are as follows: B+ in SPM English Language subject; or C in SPM English Language 1119/ O-Level / IGCSE; or minimum A2 in UEC English Language; or Band 2 in MUET.

In the event that the English language requirements are not met, applicants will be required to take the Basic English and English Foundation for in-sessional academic enhancement concurrently with the programme.

International Students:

English language competency requirements are as follows: 4.0 in IELTS; or a minimum score of 30 in TOEFL IBT; or a minimum score of 36 in Pearson Test of English or a minimum score of 140 in Cambridge English Qualifications and Tests or Band 2 in MUET.

International applicants who do not meet the respective academic programme’s English Language Requirement will need to improve their proficiency by enrolling on the English for Tertiary Education programme (R/KJP/00920-00929) which helps them prepare for attaining a required band score. Placement into the various levels of English for Tertiary Education programme depends on the English Language qualification students have at the point of admission and/or the outcome of the English Placement Test.

The applicants who have met the respective academic programme’s English Language Requirement may be advised by Faculty to improve their proficiency by undertaking the additional English proficiency courses.
