The endorsement program objectives are:

  • to increase candidates' knowledge of the nature and scope of literacy processes
  • to advance professional growth in the teaching of literacy
  • to provide specialized training in assessment and interventional for students who struggle with reading and writing
  • to prepare candidates to effectively address literacy challenges students may experience with state-mandated assessments
  • to prepare candidates for leadership in literacy instructional planning, curriculum development, and professional support

Career Options

The endorsement program prepares students for careers such as:

  • Title I Reading Teacher, providing instructional intervention for students struggling with reading and writing
  • Team or Department Literacy Leaders, providing guidance and support to their grade-level or content-area colleagues to apply literacy strategies across the curriculum

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

High School Transcript (required for current high school students)

High school juniors and seniors: You must provide an official high school transcript to the Admissions Office at the time of your application for admission. A letter of support and recommendation from your high school principal is also required.

ACT or SAT scores (required for current high school students)

High school juniors and seniors: Contact SAT or ACT to arrange for your test score to be sent electronically to the Admissions Office, or if you or the ACT or SAT will mail your test score to the Admissions Office, make sure the original sealed envelope has not been opened. Only sealed envelopes will be accepted.

Application fee

The $30 application fee is payable by mail (check or money order), online (debit or credit card), or in-person (cash, check, money order, debit, or credit card).

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

An international applicant is a foreign student who plans to apply for or is currently in the United States on a non-immigrant student visa. As an international applicant, you are required to fulfill all of the admission requirements and submit all the required documents that domestic applicants do. Additionally, you must demonstrate that you meet eligibility requirements for:

  • Non-immigrant student visa status
  • English language proficiency
