Course Overview

The BSc Criminology and Sociology course will develop your appreciation of the complex interplay between local and global forces and their relationship to social processes, with particular reference to life in the 21st-century metropolis of London.

The course will enable you to develop the methodological expertise to analyze social data and the analytical capability to identify and engage with crime and social policy debates.

This innovative degree is designed and delivered by academics whose research is recognized as world-leading in the field. Research informs its content and you will develop skills to conduct your own research into crime and society, accompanied by a range of other transferable skills.

You can further your research and data skills through a Quantitative Methods (QM) pathway for your final 2 years of study.

This course is suitable for students interested in developing the methodological expertise to analyze social data and the analytical capability to identify and engage with crime and social policy debates. This is especially relevant if you wish to pursue a career in sectors concerned with criminal justice and crime reduction.

Entry Requirement 

Course Requirements:

1. Typical Requirements:

  • A-Level: BBB (no specific subjects required)
  • IB: 29 points overall
  • Tariff: 120 UCAS tariff points (typically A-Level BBB). 
  • BTEC: DDM

In addition, the following is required:

  • GCSE: A minimum of grade 4 (C) in GCSE English and Mathematics.

2. Access to Higher Education

We welcome Access course applications from 'mature' students. These applicants will be considered on the basis of their own merits. Please be aware that Access students are often asked for further information to supplement their application, this is normally in the form of a questionnaire.

A typical offer for an Access applicant would be: Pass 60 credits, 45 Level 3 including at least 27 at distinction and the remaining 18 at merit. The Access qualification should be supplemented by at least a grade 4 (C) in Mathematics and  English Language at GCSE.

3. Other UK qualifications

  • Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subjects
  • Advanced Diploma (plus appropriate A Levels)
  • Scottish Advanced Highers
  • Welsh Diploma (plus appropriate A Levels)

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
  • PTE Academic: 59 overall with a minimum of 59 in each component.
