Course Overview

City's BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology course encourage analytical and critical thinking, the careful appraisal of evidence and the application of various technical skills.

The course will equip you with a wide range of transferable skills and you will develop the research expertise to investigate crime and criminal justice data, and the proficiency to engage critically with real-world criminal justice policy debates.

Through the study of a broad range of topics within the discipline of psychology, including the application of psychological knowledge in a range of professional areas, you will learn to appreciate how the subject progresses through the careful use of research methods.

You will acquire criminological expertise and skills to give you the competitive edge in applying for careers in government departments concerned with crime and crime control, the core professions allied to the criminal justice system and related fields, or for postgraduate studies.

This course offers a route to a graduate basis for chartered membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS) to become a charted psychologist in any field of psychology.

The programme is also excellent preparation for further study in psychology or criminology at the Master's level and is well suited for those interested in pursuing careers across a broad range of sectors.

Entry Requirement 

Course Requirements:

  • A' Level: Grades AAB or 136 UCAS tariff points
  • IB: 32 points, 5,5,5 from three Higher Level subjects
  • BTEC: DDD
  • GCSE: a minimum of grade 4 (C) in GSCE English and Mathematics is required.

Access to Higher Education

We welcome Access course applications from 'mature' students. These applicants will be considered on the basis of their own merits. Please be aware that Access students are often asked for further information to supplement their application, this is normally in the form of a questionnaire.

A typical offer for an Access applicant would be: Pass 60 credits, 45 Level 3 including at least 27 at distinction and the remaining 18 at merit. The Access qualification should be supplemented by at least a grade 4 (C) in Mathematics and  English Language at GCSE.

English Language Requirements:

Cambridge ESOL: CPE grade C or above

PTE Academic: 59 overall with a minimum of 59 in each component

IELTS: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.

EU Students: £17860 for your first year of study

Non-EU Students: £17860 for your first year of study
