Course Overview

The future of digital marketing is rapidly changing and it has led to the creation of a new type of professional who understands marketing and the technology that drives a business's marketing efforts. UW-Stout's Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Marketing Technology is designed to provide you with the skills and expertise necessary to thrive in the ever-changing digital world.

The program's multidisciplinary approach combines applied theory and hands-on learning to explain digital marketing strategies, tactics, and tools, including the:

  • Creation of original content that employs marketing research to achieve organizational goals for digital distribution.
  • Development of web applications utilizing industry-standard markup, protocols, and languages.
  • Evaluation of processes related to user analysis, design, development, and implementation.
  • Use of data to support dynamic user interaction with digital content.
  • Design and implementation of information and navigation plans using the principles of information architecture.

Whether you are a recent high school graduate, two-year transfer student or looking to change careers, our highly flexible program will prepare you for a career as a marketing communications specialist, media planner, market research analyst, social media specialist, web developer, webmaster, multimedia developer, marketing strategist, SEO diagnostics consultant, e-commerce manager, creative developer or web traffic analyst.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This multi-disciplinary degree focuses on marketing technology. The program emphasizes the application of theory to practice and will require a cooperative work experience with an approved employer. The program's professional core (41 credits) draws from a number of academic disciplines including

  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Cross Media Graphics Management
  • Management 

Students will take elective courses from these disciplines and have added flexibility to develop a secondary area of vertical depth. Using those flexible credits to achieve a minor will be encouraged. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first B.S. degree in Digital Marketing Technology offered in the United States.  

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

  • Official TOEFL score: 
    • Minimum iBT (or MyBest) score of 70, or minimum paper-based score of 525.
  • Official IELTS score:
    • A minimum score of 6.0
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)
    • A minimum score of 48
  • Duolingo English Test:
    • A minimum score of 95
  • Other:
  • Successful completion of UW-Stout's English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
  • Successful completion of an English language program affiliated with UW-Stout.
  • Graduate from a high school in the United States.
  • You have earned at least 15 transferable university-level credits from an accredited English medium-sized institution.
  • You have earned a grade of C or better in a course equivalent to UW-Stout's English 101: Composition 1.

Freshmen 

As a student accepted into one of the six BFA programs, please be aware of the following:

  • You will be required to submit a portfolio in the spring semester of your freshmen year to apply for acceptance into the intended BFA program. Portfolios will be evaluated by the School of Art and Design faculty. Through your first-year experience, you will be given the tools and skills required to prepare and submit the portfolio, and the necessary support to navigate the application process.

Transfer Students

  • All transfer students will be admitted as a Pre-Bachelor of Fine Arts (Pre-BFA) student.  Submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of the School of Art & Design faculty, who will determine direct admissions into the BFA major of your choice. The priority deadline is no later than Midnight on October 1st for spring admission and March 1st for fall admission. You will receive direction on how to submit your portfolio in your acceptance letter to UW-Stout.  
  • Submissions may be made after the priority date; however, there is no guarantee when it will be reviewed for a decision nor what art-specific coursework you may be able to get into after the review is completed and whether or not a registration for the next semester has begun.  There is a $10 application fee assessed at the time you electronically submit your portfolio.
