Course Overview

You’ll mix with both dental and dental nursing students and learn within a variety of dental teaching clinics. You'll work within our state-of-the-art facilities, receiving the highest level of core skills and knowledge. You'll become skilled at communicating with patients and colleagues, preparing you for your future role as a healthcare professional.

You will benefit from a course mapped against the General Dental Council's 'Preparing for Practice'. You'll be well prepared to approach clinical problems holistically, appreciating personal social dimensions as well as the biomedical basis of oral diseases. You will be supervised by a team of consultants in clinical dentistry in each of our dental education facilities. You’ll also benefit from the strong partnerships within the University and NHS.

  • Graduates from the course who achieve a distinction, are invited to apply to join Year 2 of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. This bespoke entry route is valid for two years post BSc completion.

ABB

  • A minimum of six GCSE passes A-C/9-4 which must include English Language or Literature, Mathematics and either GCSE Double Award Science or two from Single Award Chemistry, Biology or Physics. Plus suitable Level 3 qualifications as outlined below.
  • The typical offer is ABB at GCE A level which must include Biology. General studies at GCE A/AS level is not included in any offer.
  • Applicants holding a National Certificate or Diploma in Dental Nursing will need a minimum of 2 A levels at grades BB, one of which must be biology.
  • BTEC National Diploma in a predominantly science subject area predicted or achieved at a minimum DDM.
  • Access course in a predominantly science subject area to include 45 level 3 credits, 33 of those at merit or distinction to include 15 in biology or human biology.

English Language Requirements:

The following Secure English Language tests (SELTs) are Home Office (UKVI) approved and accepted by the University of Plymouth and the University of Plymouth International College (UPIC). The scores required have been increased from the UKVI minimum specified scores to meet University requirements.

  • IELTS (Academic)
  • Trinity College London ISE (only a SELT if taken in the UK)
  • LanguageCert International ESOL 
  • Pearson PTE Academic

A SELT must be taken at an approved UKVI center.

The other tests and qualifications listed here have been deemed acceptable by the University of Plymouth and UPIC to meet our entry requirements and UKVI requirements for study at RQF 6 and above. 

Please note that these tests and qualifications are not SELTs.

When studying on a pre-sessional course or course below RQF 6, a SELT is a mandatory requirement set by UKVI. 

If studying at RQF 6 level and above, the University is permitted to accept other qualifications that we deem meet UKVI and our requirements.
