Course Overview

The programme has both academic (theoretical and practical) skills and a sports science market orientation. It focuses on studying and analyzing the latest trends and developments in sports science and physical education academia. Consequently, it is targeting students who intend to pursue post-graduate studies in the relevant area, as well as, those who may wish to immediately enter the sports science and physical education job market following graduation.

Objectives

The main objectives of this programme are to:

  1. Educate students in the disciplines of sports sciences.
  2. Develop their intellectual capacity and their ability to academically communicate with other sports scientists.
  3. Encourage independent analytical and critical judgment.
  4. Prepare graduates to lead and develop sports sciences and related areas.
  5. Prepare students for relevant postgraduate studies.
  6. Promote life-long sports participation culture.
  7. Promote sports science research.

In addition, students who will choose coaching as a minor will be able to:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a coach
  • Develop athletes and improve their overall performance
  • Effectively condition athletes by providing concepts and principles that can assist in generating possibilities and identifying actions for the individual or the team
  • Ensure a safe coaching environment and deal safely with injuries
  • Work with exercise physiology, sports medicine, and other relevant personnel in order to plan and monitor the training and fitness of the athletes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme the graduates will be able to:

  1. Become sports educators for professional and recreational athletes and physical education teachers for children in elementary and secondary level schools.
  2. Work independently and as part of a team to examine theoretical and practical issues in sports science.
  3. Become self-directed in the area of sports science.
  4. Develop conceptual, operational, technical and practical skills that are required for achieving a successful career in the sports science field including physical education at local, national or international level.
  5. Enhance and develop leadership and mastery of the sport and exercise science knowledge using current, practical and scientific models that will in turn promote interest in life-long learning.
  6. Display critical understanding when conducting basic research in sport science and physical education as well as to facilitate a suitable background for postgraduate studies in sports science and relevant areas.

Entry Requirement 

Graduation Requirements:

 

The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.
