Course Overview

Graduates will be ready to pursue a career in teaching strings in a variety of settings or to continue study at the doctoral level.

Students are expected to continue their development as musicians while increasing their knowledge of string pedagogy practices. The graduate curriculum for this sequence provides specialized study in string pedagogy (pedagogy and literature, professional practice, applied lessons on primary and secondary stringed instruments) alongside core music courses (music theory, history, and research methods). Chamber music and non-degree recitals are among the options for elective credit.

String Pedagogy students will gain critical professional practice experience working in the nationally-recognized ISU String Project (large group, small group, and private lessons) as well as through teaching the MusicScores! curriculum at local Head Start preschool sites.
