Course Overview

The CSUteach Program prepares candidates for teaching children in adolescent to young adult (AYA), grades 7-12 (licensure in integrated language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, or mathematics/physics) and multi-age, K-12 (licensure in a foreign language – Spanish, French) at both the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels. The program includes concentrated study in Biology, Chemistry, English, Environmental Science, French, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, or Physics. Undergraduates will earn a degree in their field (from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences or College of Science and Health Professions) plus a license in four years and post baccalaureates can earn a license to teach grades K-12 or 7-12 in two years.

From their first semester, students are engaged in teaching grades K-12 or 7-12. CSUteach prepares candidates who are highly effective and qualified to teach in high needs schools and districts. Candidates will participate in a course of study with more than 630 hours of clinical experience. CSUteach partners with urban classrooms within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and the greater Cleveland area.

Entry Requirement 

Prospective CSUteach students are required to meet certain standards and requirements of the College of Education and Human Services and to declare a minor in education. Requirements include having a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, the completion of 30 semester hours of college-level coursework, and a grade of C or better in a college Mathematics and English course. 

Students can take 200-level coursework toward completion of the CSUteach program prior to meeting the admissions requirements and prior to declaring the minor in education.
