Course Overview

The study of social work offers important knowledge, skills and values to support professionals working with individuals, families, groups and communities—while at the same time advocating for social justice and community engagement. Whether you’re majoring in education, political science, psychology, sociology or the social sciences, you can take a deep dive into issues affecting children and families by minoring in this interdisciplinary program.

Required Credentials

1. Academic records: 

Undergraduate applicants are required to submit official secondary school/university records directly to Adelphi University. One set of records should be in your native language and one set translated into English. The submission and translation of all required documents and fees are entirely the responsibility of the applicant. Photocopies are not acceptable without an official school stamp or seal. Undergraduate transfer applicants must submit all official transcripts and course descriptions for all institutions of higher education attended.

2. SAT/ACT or English proficiency exam (TOEFL, IELTS, or DET) scores

  • If submitting SAT or ACT scores: Scores can be submitted via your official high school transcript, or directly from the appropriate educational testing service. For students intending to enroll in General Studies or the Learning Resource Program, SAT scores are highly suggested.
  • Students who have obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or who have been out of high school for one year or more will not be required to take the SAT (unless specifically requested to do so).
  • If submitting English proficiency exam scores: We require a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT or 6.5 on the IELTS. We will accept TOEFL MyBest scores.
  • Starting with applicants for the Fall 2020 semester, we will also accept the web-based Duolingo English Test (DET). We require a minimum score of 110 on the DET.
  • Please note that if your scores fall below our minimum requirements, you may be considered for one of our pathway programs.
