Course Overview

The mammographic techniques covered on this programme are those required to produce routine radiographic images of the breast within a breast imaging service.  

Further education and training is required by those wishing to undertake imaging additional to the routine craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique projections.

This programme is delivered using a blended learning approach; Lectures introduce theoretical concepts; specialist talks give an insight on identified areas of Breast Imaging; tutorials explore some syllabus areas in more depth and practical learning takes place within the student’s workplace. Work-based learning is continuous throughout the programme. During this time students are encouraged to practice skills, which have been discussed during academic blocks so that they will have ample opportunity for reflective practice.The virtual learning environment is utilised to ensure that support and resources are available for all students. 

Entry Requirement 

Academic Requirements:

Candidates must:

  • Have obtained 2 passes at SQA Higher level or equivalent;
  • Be employed in a clinical environment offering mammography experience;
  • Negotiate a contract with the manager of the clinical department to ensure that the required amount of time and patient load to complete the work-based element of the course will be made available.
  • Demonstrate recent personal development and a desire to further progress.

English language Requirements:

Applicants must be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent to level 6.5 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no element below 6.5.
