Course Overview

By the time you finish the programme, you will have had the necessary specialist English language, study skills, and subject-specific tuition to prepare you for an undergraduate degree.

Many of the progression degrees include work placements and the opportunity to study abroad, for the same fee as a traditional degree. Combining academic study with professional experience will give you the skills and confidence you need to succeed in your chosen career.

Modules

During your International Foundation Year you will study the following four modules:

Applied Mathematics
Applied Mathematics is a module designed for the learning needs of students wishing to pursue a degree in Computing, Engineering and Physics, but can also be taken by anyone with a keen interest in the relationship between Mathematics and Science. Topics studied include Newton’s Laws of Motion, Kinematics and Particle Dynamics.

Biology
For students interested in pursuing a degree in Biology or Biological Sciences, this module covers the fundamentals and major principles of the subject. Topics include cellular structure for living cells, plant biology, ecology and genetics, and physiological processes in animals and humans.

Chemistry
For students interested in pursuing a degree in Chemistry, this module covers the fundamentals and major principles of the subject. Topics include chemical bonding, thermodynamics and differentiating inorganic from organic chemistry. By completing this module you will develop learning outcomes that will lead you to have an excellent understanding of the components of chemicals and the way in which they work together.

Computing
In order to undertake this module, you will be expected to have a basic working knowledge of computing. However, the module covers the fundamental aspects of computing and informatics that you will be required to have for the first year of a related degree program. Upon successful completion of the module you will be equipped with the knowledge to apply basic application and coding techniques, be able to document database solutions to specified problems and have a broad understanding of different programming languages.

Physics
The module aims to build on any existing background in Physics you may have gained through high school studies. You will continue to develop your understanding of the discipline by exploring topics including atomic physics and matter and its relation to physical changes. In addition to the theoretical learning, you will also have the opportunity to develop your practical skills and to raise your awareness of safety considerations in the laboratory environment.

Entry Requirement 

Academic Requirements: 

Good high school grades or equivalent. 

  • Progression to MPharm Pharmacy degree is subject to a successful interview during the International Foundation Year.
  • Progression to the Architecture degree is subject to a successful interview and design portfolio review with the university.

India Successful completion of Standard 10 with 65% or year 11 55%
Indonesia Successful completion of Grade 6.5 SMU 2 or Grade 6.0 SMU 3
Iran Successful completion of High school Diploma (3 years ) in 4 or more subjects with an average grade of 11
Japan Successful completion of Kotogakko with grade average of 2.0
Jordan Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 50% in 4 or more subjects
Kazakhstan Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education in 4 or more subjects
Korea Successful completion of Korean high school graduation equivalency exam - 60%+ including relevant subjects
Libya Successful completion Secondary Education Certificate with average of 60%
Macau Successful completion of Bachillerato 65%+
Mexico Successful completion of Bachillerato with average of 70%
Morocco Successful completion of Diplôme du Baccalauréat with grade average of 10
Nigeria Successful completion of WAEC West African School Certificate or Senior School Certificate - grades 1 - 8 (A - E) in 4 or more subjects
Oman Successful completion of Thanawiya Amma (School Leaving Certificate) average grade 60% or above, including relevant subjects
Pakistan Successful completion of High Secondary Certificate (50%) or SSC (65%)
Qatar Successful completion of Thanawaya Aam Qatari with an average grade of 60% in relevant subjects
Russia Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education
Saudi Arabia Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 60%, including relevant subjects
Taiwan Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average grade of 60% or Senior High 3 at an average of 55% or above
Thailand Successful completion Mathayom 6 with GPA 2.0 (2.0 in Maths and Science subjects)
Turkey Successful completion of Devlet Lise Diploması (High School Completion) - 50% overall including relevant subjects
UAE Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 60%, including relevant subjects
Ukraine Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum GPA 4.5
Vietnam Successful completion of Year 12 with average grade 6.0 overall (with 6.5 for maths and science subjects)

English Language Requirements:

English Language: Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 overall (with minimum 5.0 in writing and no other element less than 4.0) or equivalent. Options available for entry from Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.0 overall Academic: Good high school graduation grades.

Age: Students are usually at least 17 years old.
