Course Overview

This course is ideal if you already work in health and social care and want a formal qualification to compliment your experience, or you’re looking to progress your healthcare career. You’ll develop the skills to perform better in your existing role and expand your role as a leader/manager within your field of expertise. You may choose to study this course over 2, 3 or 4 years. You’ll study online giving you the flexibility to advance your career around your other commitments.

If you work as supervisor or team leader, work in first-line management or have just started working in a leadership role in health and social care, this course is ideal. You’ll develop the key skills to enhance your performance and to lead teams of staff from different disciplines. The foundation degree course will also give you the skills and confidence to apply for more senior roles.  The work-based learning approach will ensure your study is directly relevant to your job.

You'll take part in an online induction which encourages socialising with fellow students and, through a variety of activities, provides a strong foundation for online learning. Our students come from a wide range of workplaces. They might include managers of GP practices or residential care homes, healthcare assistants in the NHS or the independent sector, nurses, medics in the Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy, and administrative staff in the NHS. This diversity leads to interesting and vibrant discussions. Induction takes place two weeks before the start of the course and you'll need to be registered to take part. You are therefore strongly encouraged to apply a minimum of three weeks before the start of the course to ensure the application process is complete.
