Course Overview

It will also develop the communication skills of those who desire to pursue further education in the academic fields of Middle Eastern Studies, Religious/Islamic Studies, and International Relations or those who want to live and work in an Arab-speaking country and discover the people through their melodic and lyrical language.

By the end of the course, students will have a good command of the language at the intermediate level used in everyday social conversations, current affairs, and job-related situations. The course includes cultural and historical themes that provide students with an insight into the history of the Arabic-speaking countries and the surrounding regions.  

Programme Aims

  • To develop learners’ ability to communicate with native speakers in real-life situations on a variety of topics.
  • To enable students to learn and understand the shape, patterns, structures, sounds and conventions of modern standard spoken Arabic in a range of contexts.
  • To develop students’ ability to learn and appreciate different methods of expression in diverse styles.
  • To provide students with the opportunity to understand the people and culture of the Middle East by knowing the language.
  • To enable students to compose short descriptive and narrative text about topics covered by the programme using numerous grammatical structures and a range of Arabic expressions.

Entry Requirement 

Academic Requirements:

  • SCQF level: 7
  • Equivalent to SCQF level 6 in Arabic & entry test** OR
  • Successful completion of Introductory Certificate in the Arabic Language***

English Language Requirements:

Qualification Course Requirements
GCSE English All Grade C/4-9
Standard grade All Grades 1-3
National 5 All Grades A-C
IELTS or equivalent Certificate in the Arabic Language Overall 5.0
