2. A nonrefundable application fee of $40:

Applicants who apply online can pay this fee with a credit card or electronic check. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Adelphi University and drawn on a U.S. bank. (International money orders are not accepted.)

3. A personal statement or essay:

You are encouraged to submit, in 500 words or less, a response to one of the provided questions or a topic of your choice. You may submit a report or paper you have written during the current school year if needed.

4. Academic records:

Undergraduate applicants are required to submit official secondary school/university records directly to Adelphi University. One set of records should be in your native language and one set translated into English. The submission and translation of all required documents and fees are entirely the responsibility of the applicant. Photocopies are not acceptable without an official school stamp or seal. Undergraduate transfer applicants must submit all official transcripts and course descriptions for all institutions of higher education attended.

5. SAT/ACT or English proficiency exam (TOEFL, IELTS, or DET) scores

  • If submitting SAT or ACT scores: Scores can be submitted via your official high school transcript, or directly from the appropriate educational testing service. For students intending to enroll in General Studies or the Learning Resource Program, SAT scores are highly suggested.
  • Students who have obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or who have been out of high school for one year or more will not be required to take the SAT (unless specifically requested to do so).
  • If submitting English proficiency exam scores: We require a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT or 6.5 on the IELTS. We will accept TOEFL MyBest scores.
  • Starting with applicants for the Fall 2020 semester, we will also accept the web-based Duolingo English Test (DET). We require a minimum score of 110 on the DET.
  • Please note that if your scores fall below our minimum requirements, you may be considered for one of our pathway programs.
