Pursue in-depth research and training in clinical teaching methodology and practice with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in any of 14 programs.

The doctorate degree program prepares Ph.D. students for leading roles at top scientific research institutes or expert positions in government organizations and for-profit industries. With personalized training paths for both medical and veterinary graduates, SGU’s Ph.D. program offers an intensive focus on clinical applications in veterinary and human medicine.

Additionally, SGU’s School of Arts and Sciences offers a Ph.D. in Management for graduates who have an MBA, MPH, MS, MPhil, or MA.

Our Ph.D. programs are offered through our medical school, veterinary school, and arts and sciences school. To earn a Ph.D., you must complete at least 60 credits. Your research and coursework will be directed by your supervisory committee.

All Ph.D. programs require the production and defense of a doctoral thesis. All completed theses, upon the recommendation of the chair of the supervisory committee, are submitted to the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and forwarded to an external examiner. A final oral presentation and defense of the thesis must be successfully completed prior to being awarded the PhD degree.
